Methodology

Football Development Index™

One structured 0–100 development profile that helps parents see where their player is today — and where to focus next.

Purpose

Why FDI™ exists

Parents often receive fragmented feedback. The Football Development Index™ sits inside the Player Assessment development report and brings key assessment areas into one structured picture so the next conversation — and the next training focus — can be clearer.

It is designed as a developmental signal inside Path2Academy, not as an academy selection score.

Football Development Index™

One development profile. A clearer view of their game.

The Football Development Index™ brings key assessment areas together into one structured picture of where the player is today — and where development should focus next.

  • Football Development Index™

    One structured 0–100 development profile.

  • Observed Footage Benchmark

Where the submitted footage sits on the Path2Academy pathway.

  • Academy Comparison

Area-level academy-development context, where the footage supports it.

  • Observed Strengths

What already stands out in this assessment.

  • Development Priorities

    Where to focus next.

Built from player information and the football footage you submit. It is an indicative development guide — not academy selection, trials or official grading.

How it is produced

How FDI™ is calculated in plain terms

Path2Academy analyses the football footage and player information you submit using its structured assessment methodology.

Key observed areas are brought together into a single 0–100 Football Development Index™ for that assessment sample.

Because the index depends on submitted evidence, clearer match footage that shows the player consistently generally supports a more useful profile.

Path2Academy does not publish public FDI cut-off tables for academy selection. FDI™ is a Path2Academy developmental measure — not a precise scientific formula published for public use.

How parents use it

Turn a number into useful action

  • Read FDI™ alongside Observed Strengths and Development Priorities — not in isolation.
  • Use the 30-Day Development Plan included with the completed paid assessment to work the priorities; active members can also use Train Now.
  • With membership (£49 to start, then £24.99/month), compare FDI™ and priorities between stored assessments over time. Latest-versus-previous comparison is live; full 3/6/12-month dashboards are not.
  • Share the report with a club coach if helpful — as parent-owned development context, not an official academy grade.

Limitations

What FDI™ does not mean

FDI™ is not a medical, scientific, biometric or officially recognised governing-body score.

It is not a selection probability and it is not an official FA or club academy grading.

This assessment is based solely on the footage you submitted. It is an indicative development guide and does not guarantee academy selection or represent an official academy evaluation.
